The one year old boy and the thousand year old trees

Last weekend we went on a long car trip to Humboldt Redwoods State Park, where we rented a cabin and lived with the trees for four days.

Luca loved walking among, sitting on and even sitting in the trees.

He also enjoyed throwing stones into the Eel River.

One day we drove up to Arcata and spent the morning on the beach, watching the horses ride by and dogs play in the sand. And Luca worked on his soccer skills.

On the way home, we stopped along Highway One and Luca ate grapes on the beach.

Luca was a perfect traveller, and even had fun in the car. The only time he ever complained was when we played music he didn't like. He would put both hands over his ears and say "No no no no" until we changed the track. He was very particular. For example, by Bob Marley, he liked Redemption Song and Them Belly Full But We Hungry, but couldn't stand Chant Down Babylon. The best part of all, he was thrilled to be home.

Oh, Luca---what a special time it was for the trees to have you play with, on, and among them! They will never forget you and your voice will forever be caught in those breezes!--I imagine one reason that you are such a great travelleris that your Mama and Bab know just how to distract, entertain and amuse you along the way!--Your red had is absolutely charming, and you are very into music----Did you dance your arms and legs in rhythm to the music you liked?--Did you make your Mama and Baba smile a lot?--Did you learn how to say "tree" in english and in Chinese?---You are the "boy of two oceans--the Pcific and the Atlantic!---Were there any singing birds high up in those redwood trees?---Did you p[lay hide and seek a little bit?--It looks and sounds like you had such a fine time and your Mama and Baba did too and now you have great stories to tell Kai and your other friends!--Will you please wear that red hat at Padanaram?--Love from your granny

Now that looks like a GREAT trip--and someone has become a GREAT photographer. Maybe this summer we can further explore those musical interests, Luca.
