A few of Luca’s friends and aunties and uncles came over on Sunday to help us celebrate his first year. The birthday boy looked very handsome in his Xinjiang vest from Yeye and Nainai.
For his 抓周 ”Zhua Zhou” , Luca was given several objects to choose from to foretell his future – a compass to represent a traveling life, a cow to represent a life with animals, sand from big sur to represent the natural world, a book to represent an intellectual life, a “dissent is patriotic” button to represent the life of an activist, a wrench to represent a life working with his hands, a key chain to represent power, a coin to represent wealth and.. a soccer ball. After careful contemplation of all the objects, guess which one he chose?
