The Sleepless Wonder

Luca has been waking up very early in the morning. Usually when he wakes up early in the morning, he says, “Mamababa,” meaning, he would like to please go to Mama and Baba’s bed. We used to let him, until he began poking Mama’s face, kicking Baba, and saying “Mama Up! Baba Up! Baba Out!” beginning at 5:30 am.

This morning he woke up at four, and fell comfortably back to sleep on Baba’s shoulder, while Baba sat and sat until 6 am, when Mama took over. So tonight before bed, Mama gave him a good talking to, and explained that when he wakes up, and it’s all dark in his room, and quiet, he needs to lie back down, hug Doodah and his monkey, and go back to sleep, but he must not call Mama and Baba because they are in desperate need of sleep. Luca listened very intently and seriously. To make sure he understood, Mama asked him, “Luca, when you wake up early and it’s still dark out, what will you do?”. With a very mischievous smile on his face, Luca whispered, “Mamababa.”
